Zero Spangle Galvanized Steel Sheet
Spangle of Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Sheet
Why hot galvanized steel have different spangle?
When solidified normally, if no spangle promoting elements are added to the galvanizing solution, the coating will cool and crystallize spontaneously, forming a large number of nuclei which grow into extremely small spangle, almost invisible to the naked eye, like there are no spangle, so it is called a product without spangle.

If lead, antimony and other spangle promoting elements are added to the galvanizing solution, they will hinder the formation of nuclei, and only a small amount of embryos can grow into nuclei. Therefore, the final grains are larger, that is, the zinc flowers are larger, which is called a product with large spangle. During the crystallization of large spangle, lead or antimony will be expelled to the grain boundaries. After long-term use, blackening will occur, and oxidation and corrosion will begin from the grain boundaries. Therefore, although large spangle are beautiful in appearance, they are not corrosion-resistant.
Zero Spangle Galvanized Steel
This galvanized steel does not contain any elements that promote the formation of spangles in the zinc solution. As a result, the coating solidifies evenly, with fine grains and a smooth texture. It has excellent corrosion resistance and good coating performance, making it suitable for various applications in modern industry. It is an ideal substrate for color-coated steel sheet and is the leading product in fmainstream market of world.
Large Spangle Galvanized Steel
This galvanized steel contains elements that promote the formation of spangles in the zinc solution, resulting in a beautiful spangle formation during solidification. It has good initial appearance performance, but with coarse grains and slight unevenness, its coating performance is not very good. After a period of use, it may turn black. It has gradually been phased out in foreign markets and can only be used for civil products domestically. Strictly speaking, it cannot be used as a substrate for color-coated steel sheet. Lead was traditionally used as the element to promote the formation of spangles, but in recent years, antimony has been used to avoid blackening.
Regular Spangle Galvanized Steel
Regular spangle products do not have a strict definition. Generally, galvanized steel with regular spangles are referred to as small zinc spangle products. Spangles with a diameter greater than 4mm are called large spangles, while those with a diameter less than 4mm are called small spangles. Small spangle galvanized steel have the same composition as large spangle galvanized steel, such as zinc solutions containing lead or antimony, but various methods are used to suppress the growth of spangles during cooling to form small-diameter spangles. Because it has neither the mirror-smooth surface of large spangle galvanized steel nor the smoothness of zero zinc spangle galvanized steel, it has the best coating performance and is the most ideal substrate for color-coated steel plate.
Smooth Spangle Galvanized Steel
Smooth spangle galvanized steel are zinc-coated products that have undergone an additional smoothing process on the surface of no spangle or small spangle products to make the surface more even and better suited to the needs of modern industrial products. Strictly speaking, color-coated substrates must use smooth spangle products. As the product grade continues to improve, smooth spangle products will undoubtedly be used extensively in the future.
Advantages of Zero-Spangle Galvanized Steel Sheet
Zero-spangle galvanized steel sheet has several advantages over regular spangle galvanized steel sheet. First and foremost, it has a more consistent and uniform surface appearance that is free from any visible crystallization pattern. This makes it ideal for applications that require a high-quality finish, such as automotive body panels, appliances, and architectural components.
Second, zero-spangle galvanized steel sheet has better paint adhesion than regular spangle galvanized steel sheet. The absence of spangle allows the paint to adhere more uniformly to the surface, resulting in a better finish that is less prone to corrosion and peeling.
Third, zero-spangle galvanized steel sheet has better weldability than regular spangle galvanized steel sheet. The absence of spangle makes it easier to weld the steel sheet without compromising the quality of the weld.
