Astm A153, Astm A123 and Astm A653 are all zinc coating standards specified by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). However, these three standards differ in their targeted products.
ASTM A153
ASTM A153 is the standard specification for zinc coating (hot-dip) on iron and steel hardware. This specification covers zinc coatings applied by the hot-dip process on iron and steel hardware, including nails, bolts, nuts, and other threaded fasteners. The coating may be applied to the hardware either before or after fabrication, depending on the product and the intended use. ASTM A123

The coating may be applied to the steel either before or after fabrication, depending on the product and the intended use.
ASTM A653
ASTM A653 is the standard specification for steel sheet, zinc-coated (galvanized) or zinc-iron alloy-coated (galvannealed) by the hot-dip process. This specification covers steel sheet of commercial quality, high strength, low alloy, and structural steel grades, with a coating weight of up to 1.25 oz./ft² (total both sides). The steel sheet may be coated on one or both sides with zinc or zinc-iron alloy, depending on the intended use.
